Negative scanning London - professional film digitisation
40+Years
Experience

The negatives you can't replace, scanned properly.

Film doesn't last forever. Colour negatives shift over the decades. Slides fade. Acetate film begins to off-gas. Boxes stored in lofts and garages develop mould, foxing and curl. The window for getting clean digital files from your originals is wider than people expect — but it's not infinite.

As a professional film scanning service in London, I digitise 35mm, 120 medium format, large format sheet film, APS, and slides at archive-grade resolution. Every scan is colour corrected, dust and scratch removed, and delivered as both high-resolution master files and web-ready versions. Your originals are returned exactly as they arrived — no exceptions.

Forty years behind a camera means I've handled almost every kind of film stock in almost every condition: pristine family wedding rolls from the 1970s, water-damaged corporate archive from a basement flood, 8×10 sheet film from a grandparent's professional career. The approach is always the same — careful inspection, the right scanning settings for the stock, and a thorough quality check before anything gets returned.

Slide scanning London - high resolution film digitisation

Done right, once.

Archive-Grade Resolution

Scans produced at high resolution suitable for large prints, archival storage and any future use you can't predict yet. Master files plus optimised versions for everyday viewing and sharing.

Colour Correction

Faded colour negatives and slides brought back toward their original tones. Skin colours rebalanced, casts removed, and the overall look restored — without overcorrecting away the character of the original.

Dust & Scratch Removal

Surface dust, scratches and minor blemishes cleaned during the scanning process — not destructively, and never at the expense of detail or grain. Heavier damage is repaired on request.

Every Common Format

35mm rolls and slides, 120 medium format (6×4.5 through 6×9), large format sheet film (4×5, 8×10), APS film, plus transparencies and reversal stocks. If it's film, I can probably scan it.

Secure Digital Delivery

Final files delivered via private online portal with download links. Backup copies retained for 30 days in case of accident, then permanently deleted. Your archive stays your archive.

Originals Returned As Received

Every negative, slide and sleeve returns to you in the same condition it arrived in, in protective sleeves. Receipts logged on intake. Treated like the irreplaceable items they are.

Every format, handled.

Forty years of professional photography means I've scanned and shot every major film format in circulation. The most common requests:

35mm Negatives

The most common format — colour and black & white rolls from 1930s through to early 2000s, including Kodachrome, Ektachrome and Fujichrome.

35mm Slides

Mounted Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides — including the boxes you've been promising to digitise since the projector broke.

120 Medium Format

6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7 and 6×9 negatives and transparencies — from Hasselblad, Mamiya, Bronica and twin-lens reflex cameras.

Large Format Sheets

4×5 and 8×10 sheet film — the kind professional studios shot in. Scanned at the resolution the original deserves.

APS Film

Advanced Photo System cartridges from the 1990s and 2000s — the cassette-format film many family cameras used. Still fully recoverable.

Black & White

Silver-halide negatives respond differently to scanning than colour. Bespoke settings for each emulsion type to preserve the tonal range.

Colour Negatives

C-41 process colour negatives — the standard family snapshot stock from the 1970s onwards. Faded tones rebalanced where possible.

Damaged or Fragile Film

Mould, foxing, curl, light damage, chemical spotting — many issues are recoverable, in part or in whole. Always worth a conversation before assuming a roll is lost.

From your shelf to your cloud.

When my mother passed we found three shoeboxes of slides and negatives going back to the 1960s — most never seen since they were taken. Ash treated them like they were his own. The colours came back, the scratches disappeared, and we now have every family memory backed up in the cloud. Worth every penny.

Negative scanning FAQ.

The full range: 35mm negatives and slides, 120 medium format (6×4.5 through 6×9), large format sheet film (4×5 and 8×10), APS cassettes, plus less common formats and transparencies. If you're not sure what you have, just send a photo of one of the rolls or sleeves and I'll identify it.

Damaged film is more often recoverable than people assume. Mould can be cleaned, foxing reduced, faded colours rebalanced, light leaks compensated for. The approach depends entirely on what's wrong with the originals — always worth sending pictures so I can give you an honest assessment before any work begins.

Scans are produced at high resolution suitable for large prints and archival use — sufficient to print at exhibition sizes and to handle any future application you can't predict yet. You receive both the full-resolution master files and optimised versions for everyday viewing and sharing.

Standard turnaround is 2-3 weeks for jobs up to a handful of rolls. Larger archives — multi-decade family collections, estate projects, professional photographer libraries — are quoted with a realistic timeline at intake. Express turnaround is available for urgent projects.

Yes — without exception. Every item is logged on intake, stored in archival sleeves while in my care, and returned in the same condition it arrived. Postal returns are sent tracked and insured. For larger collections I offer in-person handover within Greater London.

Final files are delivered via a private online portal accessible only to you. A backup copy is retained for 30 days as a safety net against accidental download issues, then permanently deleted. Files are never shared, used in marketing, or stored beyond that window. Your archive stays your archive.

Don't let another year pass.

Whether it's a single roll or a forty-year archive, get in touch and I'll send you a clear, honest quote with no pressure. Most enquiries get a response within 24 hours.
